hello everyone, my name's ryan with sonos customer care. today i'm going to show you how to connect an amazon alexa device like an echo, or echo dot, to your sonos system so you can control sonos with your voice. before we begin, make sure both your sonos system and your alexa device are set up and up to date. if this is your first time setting up either your sonos system or your alexa device you'll find some links in the description of this video to help you get started. in order to control sonos with alexa, you'll first need to add the sonos skill

using the alexa app. within the alexa app, select the menu button at the top left and tap skills. use the search bar at the top to search for sonos. select the sonos skill and then tap enable. the app will ask you to sign in to your sonos account. type in your email address and your password, then press sign in. this is the same login you created when you first registered your sonos system. after you've signed in, you'll need to give alexa permission to control your sonos system

by pressing okay at the bottom. you'll also need to sign in to your amazon account in order to finish adding the skill. the sonos skill is now added to alexa. close this window and then press discover devices. this tells alexa to scan your network in order to find your sonos players. this process can take up to 20 seconds and after alexa finds your players, they'll be shown here. now that you've discovered devices

you can add some of the sonos-supported music services to the alexa app. you can do this by tapping the menu icon selecting settings then music & media. as an example, i'll add my account for pandora. in order for these music services to work they need to be added to both the alexa app and the sonos app. i already have my pandora account added to my sonos system so i'm now ready to play pandora to sonos using alexa.

you can find a link to a list of music services supported by alexa and sonos in the description of this video. now that you've added your music services to alexa you're now finished setting up sonos in the alexa app and you can now use alexa to play music through sonos. when using alexa with sonos make sure you specify the name of the sonos player you'd like to control, like this: alexa, play some jazz in the living room. alexa: here's a station for jazz music, playing on living room.
