welcome to another episode of reptil tv technik. today i want to show you a juvenile breeding set. it is a practical item for very little money. i think it costs about €35. it has everything you need for your young snakes, whether you have royal pythons or corn snakes. there is enough there for the first few weeks or months until they really decide to eat. it is ideal for juveniles, because you can keep each animal in quarantine. the whole set consists mainly of this box, for this is, so to speak, the terrarium. here we have the insulation mat and the heating mat. the heating mat uses 7-10 watts, depending on room temperature.

then we have a hatching box with a piece of moss, which goes into the box. a water dish and last, but not least the litter. to set it up, i pour in the litter. i even keep a bit back in reserve, for when the litter becomes soiled and i have to add more. then i simply place the water dish. then all of this serves as hiding places, so i just add a little moss to it. i moisten the moss with water until it swells up nicley. here i have a hollow with moss, where the animals like to hide.

a tupperware box is not pretty or natural, but the snake doesn't mind, for he feels at home in there. i just place it and the snake will creep into it. so that's it for the inside, for i have my hiding place, water and litter. if you have a climbing snake, such as a corn snake, you can, of course, put in a few branches. you can find your branches outdoors and then the snake can climb when it feels like it. usually a royal python doesn't climb, so in that case i wouldn't add any branches. on goes the cover and now we get to the technical part with the heating mat.

we used to heat terrariums from below, but that is stupid, because the litter insulates from below. so it makes no sense, if i use the heating mat from below. i can attach it either on the side or in this case i think it is better to secure it to the cover. it has an adhesive film here, which you need to pull off. then you can stick the heating mat securely on top to the cover. and the mat meets here. it is important that the reflecting (silver) side shows in the direction of the heating mat.

then you need a bit of adhesive tape to secure the mat to the cover. the edges can be firmly turned down on to the cover. don't do it as stupidly as i have and tape up the box. however the result is that the mat sticks and you can close the box. then you can close the cover. plug it in and let the whole system run for 24 hours. depending on room temperature, if you have a really cold room, then the standard 10 watt heating mat will not be enough.

we tried it out in a terrarium room, where it was about 23- 24 degrees. that is ideal for during the day it is about 30 degrees and at night the room cools down and the temperature drops during the night to about 26 degrees. in a well-heated room the whole thing works perfectly. if you have a cool living room at 21 degrees you may have to buy an additional mat, which you attach to the side. plug in the two heating mats and the extra 7 watts are enough to heat the box. so, the set is intended for a room at about 23 degrees. a breeding tank is ideal. it is good and hygienic. you can wash it or change it

when it gets dirty. of course, it would not win a design award, but it serves the purpose. it is intended to be good for quarantine and breeding in the first few weeks. you can stack the whole system, by simply placing the next box on top of the first. this also has the advantage that the heat from the mat at the top is distributed to the next box and so you lose as little heat as possible. as i said, this is the perfect set for breeding juveniles.
