hey, hey, smart bank customers! today in this video, it is about these two cards. you get both cards free of charge, if you open an account at germany's biggest and best-known direct bank. and in this video, it is all about the use abroad of both cards. so, let's start directly after the intro. and as usual, the accompanying article for you. by means of this accompanying article, we go through the points for the use abroad of the both ing-diba cards. why is it the biggest direct bank of germany? price/performance, product scope and service are just so great that many people feel attracted to this bank. especially in current times, when new price listings are published and many local banks have increased the fees:

first of all, the account management fees - at some it is a little more hidden - the fees for such funny cards here, for visa and mastercard, for credit cards, were increased. so this video clip can also be an invitation of trying another account, to open it and then see, "is this something for me? can i perhaps handle a direct bank?" and what could be better than germany's biggest direct bank? we will see that in this video clip. one thing upfront: it is germany's biggest one. that means that it is really great for the use in germany, but we will not deal with that in this video clip. we deal with the use abroad. you know it, if you watched a video of some weeks ago: i was in the usa, the abroad, and experiences are drawn into this article. at the end of this video clip, i have an outstanding recommendation for you.

let's take a look at the card. which card should i use in what country? one thing upfront: it is really cool to be in a two-card system with one account: one is the visa card of visa, and two the maestrocard, which belongs to mastercard, as we all know. so, it can be meaningful to take both cards with you. but you don't have to. just look at where you are going to. if we are in a country with euro as the currency, then it does not matter which card you take for the card payment. to withdraw cash, however, always take the visa card. so this is a rule of thumb: always withdraw cash with the visa card. this does not just apply to the ing-diba, also to other good direct banks.

it is viceversa at the local banks. the visa card is more expensive and you just take the girocard. so if you switch from a local bank to a direct bank, then you simultaneously switch the following: your main card is then the credit card. there is an important background: if you make payments with the cards, banks earn about 50 % more on internal fees than with this card. therefore, direct banks prefer this card. the few that remain and have aimed their traditional model permanently to offering a free current account, attaching importance to this card, because they earn 50 % more through it. they have to earn money somehow, obviously. and this is done through the card use of the visa card or mastercard.

in this case, the ing-diba has the visa card. there is a small particularity: if you have to do something in romania or sweden and travel there frequently or for a longer time, it can be quite interesting, because the giro card bears a small bonus. i won't deal with it in detail - perhaps there aren't many people, who pertain to this. what we have at the ing-diba – this is customary and common – is the foreign transaction fee. for every card payment in a country, where euro is not the currency, or for every transaction that you make other than in euro - except for sweden and romania – 1.75 % fees are added, charged by the bank for the exchange of currency. this is customary, this is done by 99.x % of banks. so, we also have that at the ing-diba.

i have included the overdraft facility in the table for you: you can withdraw with every card euros 1,000 at the atm – we better get to the details. i scroll down a little, where i have described it further. let's go to the details. you can read everything here in our accompanying article. i have mentioned something already about the euro-country. so this is also a top-bank in germany. and if you mainly are within the euro-area, it is almost just like in germany, because we share the same currency. let's go to the overdraft facility and credit limit. this picture is perhaps also very funny, i have withdrawn cash in canada. you can see that here. there are countries that do not have such a big selection like we do, to get big bills.

especially north america is known for that. here in canada, you only get dollar 20 bills. and if you withdraw a lot of cash at the atm, then you get a big bundle of money, and this can look like that e.g. in front of a car. of course, i have put that here for the photo. don't park a car with this bonus! if you are on the road with both cards - euros 1,000 daily limit. but you can also withdraw several times a day. in canada, it is relatively common that one can withdraw dollar 1,000 at once at the atm. these are converted a little more than euros 700. that means that you can withdraw a second time and you have two cards. that means that you can withdraw with the cards at the atm euros 2,000 per day, euros 14,000 per week,

extrapolated to the month it is euros 60,000, if you want and if you have it. this is pretty much and above average. not all banks have such a high limit on the cards. regarding the limit for card payments, euros 4,000 per week are possible. this perhaps is due to safety reasons of the ing-diba. however, if you travel with the family and book the flight – let's assume that you fly with a family of five to the usa, that this could cost more than euros 4,000. this is not a problem. you can call your direct bank and say, "i would like to increase the limit to [this or that amount]."

then it is valid for one week and then the limit is decreased again automatically to the euros 4,000. this has proven itself in the past years. that is the reason for this system. for most people, the euros 4,000 per week are sufficient, but one can temporarily increase it. let's get to my personal experiences with this card and these are educational – especially because quite a lot did not work - but these were rather my faults than the fault of the bank. i have presented that in detail here, but i'll be brief in the video, because if something should not work, then it should not take a lot of time in the video. usually, it works relatively well. i'll reveal, why it did not work with me. i was in the usa and wanted to pay with the visa card. it just did not work and i did not know why.

then i took the maestro, so the giro card, and it did not work at the payment terminal either. i was a little irritated and then went to a supermarket. there are such payment terminals - e.g. i wanted to pay something of about dollar 1,000 in a farmacy, there are such security mechanisms that are suddenly activated. so i went to the supermarket and did something very easy: i bought postcards – now you can also see where i was. one cost 20 cents plus tax – perhaps you know that every state of the usa has different taxes. so the card cost 22 us-cents including taxes. and there, the payment worked with this card. that this was not optimal, you can see in the video in a second.

however, it still did not work with this card to pay 22 cents. so i became a little uncertain and called the ing-diba and was asked for the telephone-pin. however, if you do not have the telephone-pin, then there is no chance that the bank will help you. the help was granted by the banker, who told me, "it is good that this card still works. if you withdraw cash, then just withdraw higher amounts", because at this card you have to pay a withdrawal fee – so this euros 5 fee, which is relatively common for german banks - only with this card it would be free of charge. but without telephone-pin, you cannot get further help. so, very important: a solution of my mistakes: i did not take the telephone-pin with me, so the fault was mine.

the bank is not to blame. it just cannot access the system, because the system is provided and secured this way, so no one can call and pretend to be you. therefore: you must take the telephone-pin with you. but please do not store it together with the card, because you can find the current account number – at the back of the card, so store it separately. what else happened: i have called the ing-diba again when i was back in germany, told them my telephone-pin and then they told me the following: "you have incorrectly entered the pin too often." i use the card - if you are with us for longer, you know that i use the ing-diba as the emergency account,

and have entered the wrong pin too often. so the payment terminal could not tell me that, of course, neither the banker without my telephone-pin. so during the telephone call, he reset the incorrect entry, that means that it now works again and i can go shopping. i have paid a postcard of 22 cents with this card. this was not very meaningful, as you can see the foreign transaction fee here in the table. here, i have highlighted this in colour, there is a field that is red: 1.75 %. if you spend 22 cents, converted 19 euro-cents, then no foreign transaction fee applies, because the amount is just too small - the fee would be a little more than 0.003, so it would be commercially rounded-down to zero. that means that one would not have the foreign transaction fee at small amounts –

but with this here, because there is a fee of at least euro 1. so the postcard cost me euro 1 and 19 cent. of course, i knew that before. i just wanted to demonstrate this using an extreme example, that you should not pay small amounts in a foreign currency with this card, because it just gets more expensive and this is not necessary. you know that: in some countries, there is a direct customer fee, in which the atm charges you an additional fee. we create a list for you, where these atms without this fee are in the usa. this is a little thematical excursion. now we get back to our article and see, what further information we can provide you.

here we have it again in an illustration: the debit order and the fee. and what i made as a test: i have bought another postcard with my dkb visa card, this is why there are two. and in this context, it was also interesting. there are some people, who estimate it because of the clarity: you get both cards at the ing-diba, and both cards access the same account. that means that the credit card limit at the same time complies with your balance on the current account, plus the overdraft facility, if you have set up an overdraft facility. every transaction, no matter which card, is immediately debited from the current account and descreases the balance, so to say. this way you can see what is left and how much you can still spend during the month.

now, at the use abroad, i have determined that there are differences: i have paid with the both cards only seconds after each other. this was quite interesting at the counter, but the americans played along. but on the account, one can see different booking days, so the ing-diba was a little late. perhaps this is why the exchange rate was a little different too. this does not matter, because the difference is really small. we mentioned this for the sake of completeness. tips for the use abroad. it really is a wonderful bank. and the story that it did not work correctly with me, was my fault. i have entered the wrong pin and did not take the telephone-pin with me. these are things you should take with you. therefore my advice: take the telephone-pin with you.

sometimes people ask me, "do i have to report the journey?" not at the ing-diba. there are indeed banks, where the cards do not work abroad or are suddenly blocked, if they are used abroad, because the security regulations stipulated it. we do not have that at the ing-diba. you can just head off and take your card and you have all the systems. in any case, it is a wonderful bank. but it is the best bank, if one is abroad for a long time, if one is in the foreign currency abroad - within the euro-area, this is outstanding – if one is in the foreign currency abroad, depending on how much you have already watched me, you know that my main credit card for the abroad is another one. i have compared both cards here in the article for you: the visa card of the ing-diba and the visa card of the dkb.

of course, they have one thing in common: in euros there is no problem at all – to withdraw cash at the atm, to pay free of charge with the card. in all other countries, there is a difference: withdrawing - no problem. neither of the banks charges a fee for that. but at the ing-diba, you pay the additional 1.75 % foreign transaction fee, and at the dkb – de facto – not. i always add "de facto", because it is charged at first and then, at the end of the month, refunded. we have an extra video and an extra article on that subject. this is an advantage. if you e.g. have a transaction or withdrawal of euros 1,000 with this card, then this is an advantage of euros 17.50 per euros 1,000. you have it or you don't, this is the question.

overdraft facility – now you know that you can also increase the euros 4,000 temporarily. at the ing-diba, this is what you have deposited on the card - you can deposit money on the card - you currently get a little interest - plus the credit line. if you open the account anew, it can be that it is euros 500 at first - because the bank does not know yet, how it will develop - plus the deposit. if you deposit euros 2,000, then you have a credit line of euros 2,500. if you should use it as the salary account, however, this is not necessary to have a free account management, then the credit line increases, it can be up to euros 15,000, and if you additionally deposit euros 10,000, then the credit line is euros 25,000,

and you do not have to call or deal with the bank - you can also set up other limits within the online banking. however, this would be too much for this video. just access the online banking for yourself, if you have the card already. if you do not have the card yet, then we have the link, where you can apply for the account and card. the overdraft facility for the cash withdrawal is the same at both banks, the euros 1,000. none of it offers you an advantage. what is quite thrilling and why i really like the dkb-visa-card a lot: you have an option of help, if you get into trouble. this can be meaningful, especially in the abroad. there is the emergency card and the emergency cash. of course, it already happened to me that i have lost the card.

for this, i have produced an article and an instruction: how does the thing with the emergency card and the emergency cash work? if this is interesting for you, then just go to the article and i have also produced a video for this. let's get back to our current article: if you are inspired by this video and say, "okay, i have one card, but am missing the other one - i want to supplement it." then this is a good thing. another suggestion for this: at the dkb, the overdraft facility is calculated through the actual salary transfer. that means that it is meaningful to actually transfer your salary to it, if you open this account – not because it will be free of charge, it is free of charge anyway -

but because your credit line, your overdraft facility on the cards will be increased. at the ing-diba, this is different. it is the case that your overdraft facility is set up due to your proof of salary. that means that if you have a salary, then you can get with only one salary a nice credit line at two banks. this is a wonderful advice, which we have also dealt with in detail on our portal. i will also embed a link below this video, so that you can access it directly. i have set the link for the application here. if you click on it, then you immediately get to the website. to deepen the content further, to improve it, i am looking forward to the following: what are your experiences?

do you already have a card? how about your experiences abroad? do you have experiences from your daily use or travel use or business use that you want to share with us? for this purpose, we have a comments box here below. i am always glad for comments, and if you have like this video, then i would be grateful for your rating, especially for 5-stars. you know that the video that we are just recording, will be embedded here. and with this, i conclude my contribution for today. many thanks that you have watched this video to the end. you can look forward to next week, when we produce another great new video. i just love to make videos for smart bank customers, who follow me, who engage themselves,
